The Baron

The evolution of a design.
In this case Bazelo "The Baron" Lanron. What started out as a fairly basic sketch, sparked more interesting thoughts. While some parts stayed the same, others changed dramatically.

This is usually the way my characters develop. Through multiple remakes, I narrow down what's funny, exciting, important or dramatic. In this case, for instance, I felt I needed something a little more sassy and added the small arms for comedic effect.

Hr. Nielsons 'Trickster'

A redesign of another persons character. I decided to make her as artificial as possible, but in the old fashioned style. I researched prosthetic limbs from the first World War and went with the leather/wood limbs.

Skin Dancer + Annabelle Bedlam

Forgive the recent gaps between uploads. Both my computer, and my patience, have been rather tested lately.
Anyway - here's two new line art drawings. Fill in the colours yourself. And no: I'm not gonna mark the areas with numbers - work it out yourself.

I've been running quite a few tests on this one. Getting the stomach-mouth right, was a challenge. I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do with the inside of the mouth. Logically, you would be able to see the intestines at this point, but that just seems silly. I should probably just let it be a deep, black hole into God-knows-where.

It's actually a shame I never got around to finishing this one. I think it has a lot of potential. I might return to this one later.

Zsasz Poster design

Possibly the creepiest Batman-villain. Something about this one just makes my skin crawl.

Frank Castle

Frank Castle - The Punisher. I got tired of doing the same type of image every time - so now it's a portrait.
The Punisher is copyrighted and owned by Marvel Comics.

Dubious - "The Roth"

The Roth. This was quite a challenge. I have tried a lot of new things with this one. Some of them worked - some of them didn't. I tried using some textures in this one - I blended pictures of rotting meat into the shades and colors. It is very subtle, but just strong enough to shine through and add a little extra gore. While I think that works quite well, I screwed up the general shading. I created the entire image in gray tones first and then added the color - that didn't work out the way I hoped. There is still time to fix some of it, but I doubt it would really be worth it. This comes across fairly strong in his left hand: it has become flat, and the thumb looks broken [has nothing to do with the method - that's a simple shading-fuck up].
But it was still a good exercise. It's been a while since I've worked all the way through one of these detail-nightmares.

Exercises

A quick exercise. This served as preparation for a difficult sequence of poses.
It's always a good idea to jot down a few sketches and observations as a
warm-up, before starting an advanced pose.

A page of doodles from a train ride. I wasn't aiming for anything in particular, but I'm very pleased with the lady in the center - it became pretty much what I wanted it to be.
